Remembering Joey (on Facebook)

I thought I'd mention it here, in case some of you didn't know yet. You can go there and join the group. It's started by Rachel and she's maintaining it along with the Johnsons. Here's the basic info on the group:

Joseph, Joey, Joe - the fiery redheaded kid who became the man we all admired and loved.

His passion for life shone through in everything he put himself into - music, surfing, snowboarding, travel, work, friends, love, politics, beer brewing - by nature he was a true connoisseur. He was quick to give you his opinion, then even quicker to back it up with an intelligent, expressive reason. He loved to laugh, inspire laughter, make up songs, dance, and run jokes into the ground a hundred times over.

He was a true liver of life (that one's for you, JR).

The pain of his abrupt passing is deepened by the thought of his memory fading. Please freely share stories, photos, memories - anything to keep him with us. (click here)

This morning, we sang "Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord. . . You give and take away, You give and take away . . ."

We thought of Joey, and especially of Joe and Karen, and Lu shed more tears.

We love you guys.

Aloha from North Carolina:

Even though I didn't know Joey that well, I feel I've gotten to know him through this blog. As a parent, there is no way I can even begin to know what you guys are going through. My heart is with you.

I passed this blog onto some online friends, Claudia and Miguel, who are missionaries in Ecuador. Claudia also lost a son and she has shared some of the grief she has gone through and continues to go through. In many ways they remind me of you guys, mighty warriors for the Kingdom.

I just wanted to pass along that I check this blog several times a week and I was thinking of you guys today.

Thanks so much Doug. We share a bond with every parent who ever lost a child. Our comfort and consolation is that they are in heaven, and that other people share the burden of our loss. Love to you and yours.

Corey leaves today to go back to California. Its his hug that reminds me of Joey. He's not only tall but his arms are long and they wrap around me at least a circle and a half.

I know that God's grace is sufficient. It abounds when we need it. And I am praying that you experience it daily. We all still feel such sadness and loss and think of Joey often. Elise brought her copy of the book you made about Joey to our Ohana. Lots of tears still being shed.

Love you guys,
Toni Spence
