Heaven

Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled;
you believe in God, believe also in Me.
In My Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so,
I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again and receive you to Myself;
that where I am, there you may be also"

All of us Johnsons were blessed with musical talents. Viv, Joe, Glen and I all play guitar and sing. We have both the Lord and our mom to thank for this.(sorry, dad!LOL) We also have talents in songwriting, as Joey did. one of my favorite things to do at family get togethers was to sneak off to a corner with JJ and we would try out new songs on each other. The last time I saw him was at Jackie's and my wedding weekend at Aunt Viv's house in late Dec. 2006. He previewed a cool new tune he was working on and played it for me on his uke. This ended up being the song which was played in rough cut at his funeral. I, in turn, played a few of my tunes for him. He was always impressed at my lyric writing, and expressed how he did'nt like the task himself. (Something I found astounding, as he writes so elegantly.) Since his passing, I have done a lot of backtracking and thinking of my songs, and at what point in my life I penned them. One in particular was a tune I wrote in honor of my father (Grampa John),in which I recalled his way of sharing with us about the love of Jesus Christ, and painting wonderful pictures of Heaven for us. The only time JJ heard this song was when I sang it at my dad's bedside as he was dying. We were all gathered round praising him in song. To this day, it is among my most cherished memories. I realized just last week, that I wrote that song when I was 28 years old. the same age as Joey when he passed away. And I feel it is amazingly relevant. I have never recorded it, but would like to share the lyric, if I may....

HEAVEN'S DOOR

In my earliest lifetime
I would climb on papa's knee,
and I would beg him to tell me
one more time...
every thing about Jesus,
and the place that God and he
were so busy preparing
for my time...

He told me "Heaven" was the name
of our eternal home awaiting us
then he'd tell me what it was like
son, you see....

The Lord's preparing a place
not of this world
for all those who trust in him.
The Lord, in all his grace
is making a world
completely free from sin...

Ther'll be no more pain,
no endless shame,
just gladness forever more!
Ther'll be no more tears,
no lonely years,
when he opens Heaven's door.

In my wide eyed wonder,
I would listen as he'd say
how we'll see all our loved ones
who have died...

when the sky rings with thunder,
and Jesus comes to take us away
they'll be waiting to welcome
us inside!!

The streets are lined with
gold, my boy,
and the angels sing unceasingly,
and Jesus Christ will stroll
right by your side!!

The Lord's preparing a place
not of this world
for all those in love with him,
the Lord, in all his grace
is making a world
completely free from sin...

Ther'll be no more pain,
no endless shame,
just gladness forever more!
Ther'll be no more tears,
no lonely years,
when he opens Heaven's door!

Ther'll be only joy,
and each girl and boy,
can laugh and have fun galore!!
so never fear death,
for with your last breath,
He'll open Heaven's door.

Until we share songs face to face once more, my dear nephew....

I was there for that song Steve - it was a precious moment. Joey always appreciated it when someone did their own music.
